Home-cooked, not reheated
Pies built in our kitchen, real chips, and an apple crumble people mention in reviews by name. Vegan and dietary requests handled without fuss.
Gelligaer · Caerphilly · CF82
Every road over Gelligaer common ends up at our door, and it has for generations. Home-cooked food, a well-kept pint, a fire in winter and a garden in summer. Run by Nazzeire and Laura. Dogs get a biscuit.
Croeso · Welcome
Nazzeire and Laura took The Cross on with one rule: keep the character, raise the cooking. So the bar still feels like the bar, the locals still have their corner, and the kitchen now sends out food worth crossing the common for.

Beer garden, children’s play area and a kids’ menu. Bring the pram, the grandparents and the football team.
You’ve walked the common, your dog has rolled in half of it. Both of you are still welcome in the bar.
From the grill
Our signature grill: a plateful with a local reputation and a name borrowed from the village. Steak, gammon, chicken, sausage, real chips and the trimmings. Finish it and you’ve earned your pint.
Sundays
Beef, lamb or turkey with roasties, proper gravy and a Yorkshire that stands up straight. Served 12 till 3.30 every Sunday, and it goes. Book ahead.
This week
Hours flex on bank holidays and match days. Check Facebook or ring us.
